FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
"Healing from grief is not the process of forgetting, it
is the process of remembering with less pain and more
joy."
For
numerous residents of the Wabash Valley, the loss of a
loved one has proven to be distressing and some question
if the depths of their grief will ever diminish. The
Maple Center is pleased to announce that it is
sponsoring a workshop for grieving men and women to
attend. “Creating a Path Through Grief Using the
Arts: Resources for the Brokenhearted” will be held
on Saturday, April 28th (9:00 AM-4:00 PM) at
the Landsbaum Center for Health Education located at
1433 North 6 ½ Street in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Many
have successfully utilized the creative experiences of
art, music, and journaling during the time of traumatic
loss for personal healing and growth.
This
workshop is planned for anyone in the community who has
experienced the death of a loved one. Although the day’s
workshop sessions will focus on journaling, music
therapy, imagery, art therapy, and dance, no specific
artistic talents are required to attend. As the
workshop’s title expresses, participants will be
supplied with resources to assist them with the grief
process.
The
impetus for this workshop was the untimely death of
Lydia Laska, a young woman from our community. Memorial
donations were given in her honor and memory to The
Maple Center. Miss Laska’s family asked that The Maple
Center present a workshop to assist other families in
our community that have suffered the death of a family
member or friend. At the request of the Laska family,
the workshop is also dedicated to the memory of Patrick
Burkett who passed away in 2006.
Co-Sponsoring the event are the ISU Center for the Study
of Health, Religion, and Spirituality, the Union
Hospital Chaplain’s Office, and the Union Hospital
Maternal Health Clinic.
Pre-registration is required
as lunch will be provided for all who are attending. A
minimal cost of $10 per person is being charged. If an
individual cannot afford the registration fee,
scholarships are available. It is the mission of The
Maple Center to provide health-focused programming to
all in our community, regardless of socioeconomic
status. Registration deadline for this workshop is April
16, 2007. Register early before the workshop has reached
enrollment capacity!
