NAP Tax Credit Drive

February 5, 2007

Dear Friends,

Last year, you charitably responded to our request to purchase Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) Tax Credits to support the vision of the Union Hospital Maternal Health Clinic and The Maple Center. The State of Indiana endorsed and recognized the vital community health programming that our two organizations provide to the Wabash Valley by awarding us $25,000 in tax credits (that when sold, will generate $50,000 in donations). Organizations such as the Maternal Health Clinic that serve an economically disadvantaged population are competitively selected for the NAP credits each year.

Once again, we would like to invite you to participate in the ultimate way to donate to worthy organizations. As a reminder, any support you provide by purchasing NAP Tax Credits is reimbursed to you by 50% as a credit on your Indiana State Income Taxes (limited only by your total taxes).  You are also able to deduct the entire donation on your Federal Income Taxes.  Depending on your tax bracket, this means that up to 75% of your support will be refunded to you.

As of today, we have $7174.50 in tax credits to sell. Local labor unions, our contractor, CDI, Inc., architect Steve Arnold, and our staff are prepared and eager to begin construction and renovations on our current facility. Your response to this request to purchase NAP Tax Credits for 2007 will enable these vital capital improvements to occur. A new community health education classroom will become the home of our Centering Pregnancy Classes and numerous other educational programs. Currently, we must sponsor many of our programs off-site. The addition of this classroom will benefit the community and the Maternal Health Clinic and The Maple Center.

In addition to the community education classroom, we are eager to renovate the facility for our Dr. John Black Memorial Resource Library, jointly sponsored by The Maple Center and Union Hospital. This facility will provide an innovative means for health professionals and the public to learn more about Integrative Medicine, Acupuncture, and Maternity Care. Patients will also be able to research their own personal medical conditions.

Best of all, Union Hospital, which owns One Professional Centre, has agreed to credit the nonprofit Maple Center the cost of these renovations toward the building rent.  This means that the rent from individual providers who lease space within the Maple Center’s Integrative Health and Maternity Care Center will go to support the educational projects of the nonprofit (approximately five years’ rent.)  Your donation helps make the renovations possible and provides sustaining, consistent income for the nonprofit Maple Center.

We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity.  Checks should be made out to Union Hospital Foundation.  If you have questions, please call Mary Huffman at 238-7301 or David Land at 238-7534. Additional information is available on our website at www.themaplecenter.org.

With nearly 100 NAP Tax Credit donors assisting us in 2006, we optimistically believe that these remaining $7174.50 in NAP Tax Credits can be sold before the end of February. Tax credits will be awaiting you when you complete your 2007 tax returns AND construction will be able to initiate in early March if these remaining Tax Credits are sold before the end of the month. Will you consider partnering with Union Hospital’s Maternal Health Clinic and The Maple Center to reach our goal?

Respectfully submitted,
